The daily routine (2 minutes)
- Every evening, wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth — never water, never solvents.
- Brush the openings (microphones, receiver) with the small dedicated brush, device pointing downward so debris falls out.
- Open the battery door (or dock rechargeables) overnight in a dry spot — not the bathroom, where humidity peaks.
The weekly routine
- Inspect the wax filter: a whitish plug is the number one cause of “dead” devices. Change it as soon as it looks clogged.
- Check the domes or earmolds: a cracked or hardened dome irritates and whistles; earmolds can be wiped with a slightly damp cloth once detached from the electronics.
- Use a drying capsule or electric dehumidifier overnight, especially in summer or if you perspire.
The mistakes that cost dearly
Never: water or alcohol on the electronics, hair dryers, radiators, glove compartments in summer, tissues that shed fibres into the microphones. And never dig into the receiver opening with a pin — that's the fastest way to kill it.
Even with a perfect routine, plan a professional deep cleaning once or twice a year: vacuum extraction, dehumidification and disinfection reach what home care can't.
